What is PromptPay?

Users of PromptPay may instantly transfer Thai Baht between accounts by using their mobile phone number, citizen identity number (ID), e-wallet ID, company tax ID, biller ID, or bank account number. It is incredibly secure and closely supervised by the Bank of Thailand.

Flywire will provide you with a special bank account number to send the money via PromptPay using your banking app on your phone, internet banking, or at the ATM when you choose to pay via domestic bank transfer in Thai Baht (THB).

Launched in January 2017, the initiative enrolled 40 million individuals by the middle of 2018. The government has great support for the service.

What is PromptPay?

Utilising your Citizen ID or mobile phone number rather than a bank account number, you may send and receive money quickly and simply with PromptPay via electronic channels including online banking, mobile banking, and ATMs.

What are the benefits of PromptPay?

A practical option for receiving and sending money is PromptPay.

Using your Citizen ID, you may easily receive money from the government, including tax refunds, payments for senior citizens’ welfare, and support allowances, which will be deposited to your registered account.
Mobile Phone Number: You may receive and send money between people using your mobile phone number. You don’t have to keep track of an account number, and the costs are reduced. The rates for transfers between banks and across regions are the same, so you don’t need to ask for the bank’s name or location. There is no need to carry cash, and it is easy and safe.

How is information registered with PromptPay secure?

Like other fund transfer systems, PromptPay offers a high level of security and is governed by the Bank of Thailand.

When registering with PromptPay, you must give identification by submitting your Citizen ID number, account name, and mobile phone number (you will receive an OTP via SMS for verification). The Citizen ID and mobile phone number are not utilised for any other purpose other than to link PromptPay with an account.
PromptPay money transfers are possible through our electronic channels, including Bualuang mBanking, Bualuang iBanking, and Bualuang ATMs. You may sign up with Bualuang mBanking for the SMS Account Alert or mAlert service to quickly keep track of your account’s movements.

How do I register for PromptPay?

Using one of our various channels and the necessary information and paperwork, you may register for PromptPay and link your savings or current account to either your Citizen ID or the phone number you’ve registered with the bank, or both.

With Bangkok Bank, you may sign up for PromptPay using one of the following six methods:

Is there any fee for PromptPay registration?

Registration with PromptPay is free, with no fee.

Do service users need to register for PromptPay?

When transferring money using a Citizen ID or mobile phone number, the recipient does not need to sign up for PromptPay; they can use any bank channel that suits their needs.

In order to link a bank account with their Citizen ID or mobile phone number, recipients must first sign up for PromptPay.

What are the conditions for PromptPay registration?

The following criteria must be met in order to register with PromptPay:

  • Both a Citizen ID and a mobile phone number can be added to the same account.
  • Per account, a single Citizen ID may only be registered.
  • Per account, a maximum of three mobile phone numbers may be registered.
  • To sign up with PromptPay, only Thai baht individual accounts (savings/current accounts) may be utilised.
  • PromptPay registration is not possible for joint or FCD accounts.
  • If you enter your mobile phone number while registering for PromptPay, an OTP will be sent to you through SMS for verification.
  • Only once the prior registration has been cancelled with another account may Citizen IDs or mobile phone numbers be registered.

I have many accounts with various banks. Using which account should I sign up for PromptPay?

Depending on what is more convenient for you, you can register for PromptPay by linking your Citizen ID and/or mobile phone number with the primary bank account you typically use. Since a PromptPay account is used to receive money, you should be able to monitor account activity utilising practical channels like Bualuang mBanking and Bualuang iBanking. You can update or cancel your registration at any moment if you want to switch banks or accounts.

If I register for PromptPay, can I still make funds transfers using existing services?

Yes. You can transfer money using the current services as usual.

When transferring money via PromptPay, what are the restrictions on the amount of a single transaction, the number of transactions per day, and the sum of all daily transactions?

The volume of daily financial transactions made using PromptPay is unrestricted. Each bank establishes the maximum transaction amount as well as the overall value of daily transactions.

Do I also have to utilise Bualuang mBanking/Bualuang iBanking if I register for PromptPay?

The receivers just need to sign up for PromptPay; they are not required to utilise Bualuang mBanking or Bualuang iBanking.

The transferors must utilise electronic channels like Bualuang mBanking or Bualuang iBanking to transfer the monies to the recipient’s account, which is already registered with PromptPay, even if they are not required to register for PromptPay. With Bualuang mBanking or Bualuang iBanking, you can easily monitor your account’s balance and transfers, and if you sign up for SMS Account Alert, you’ll get timely information regarding account activity.

What should I do if my mobile phone number registered with PromptPay changes or is cancelled?

If you want to register with a new mobile phone number, you must cancel the one you previously used for PromptPay. You may do this through one of our service channels.

What should I do if my account that is registered with PromptPay changes or gets cancelled?

If you want to register with your new account, you must cancel the one you had previously created with PromptPay. You may do this using one of our support channels.

If I register for PromptPay with my mobile phone number and I lose my mobile phone, will this affect the money in my account?

Your PromptPay account is exclusively used to receive money. Even if you misplace your registered mobile device with PromptPay, this won’t compromise the security of your account.

I am a foreigner. Can I register for PromptPay?

Yes. When signing up with PromptPay, you can use your passport as your identity and link your cell phone number to your preferred account.
